We keep hearing that democracy is something to be desired. For years the corporate media and politicians keep reciting the phrase "Our Democracy", like some kind of spell. Well, I think Democracy is absolute trash.
One of the most popular arguments for democracy is the "peaceful transfer of power". This is lauded as Democracy's great achievement. But what if this is one of its biggest flaws? The old leaders get to retire in comfort, no matter how much misery they inflicted upon their countrymen. And while the incoming government may blame the old one for the country's many problems, rarely will anyone ever be held accountable for what they did while in office.
Another problem with democracy is the one citizen, one vote thing. Stupid, weak, lazy, and immoral voters can and do elect politicians whose campaign promise is to redistribute wealth from the productive class. This scum of the nation has a roughly equal chance of getting their people in power, and running roughshod over the other half of the citizenry. This turns voting into a humiliation ritual for anyone on the right side of the Bell Curve.
Democratic countries also suffer from a false sense of moral superiority. They believe they are sacred cows who can do no wrong. If someone attacks their citizens, they call it terrorism. But when they drop bombs on schools and hospitals in a "dictatorship", well that's ok. Democratic countries bomb civilians with impunity (and even pin medals on the chests of their war criminals), while telling the world they are holier than thou.
