Personally, if I ever discovered the secret to immortality I wouldn't share it with others for several reasons.
First I would be concerned if everyone was immortal in the sense that they don't age (and perhaps are immune to sickness), that the human population will explode. The slothful and wicked will live on until they exceed the earth's carrying capacity, then Thomas Malthus will at last have his revenge. Hitler warned about much the same problem in Mein Kampf- that no matter how much technology advances it is merely a multiplier upon what the land can produce. War and famine will be the eventual outcome.
My second fear is that there is already a secret organization of immortals who are keeping a tight lid on it. If this be true, then they may seek to persuade me to keep quiet about my "discovery", and try to discredit me. They would likely be motivated by a combination of Malthusian thought and a kind of social darwinism where only a select few deserve eternal life upon the earth.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
