Personally I love Homeworld 1, Cataclysm, and 2, but if I had to choose, the original is my favorite. The story and music really sells it as an epic space saga. The return to Kharak was very sad, with Samuel Barbers Adagio for Strings seeming the perfect choice.
Did you enjoy any of the Homeworld games, and if so did any of the missions stand out to you?

Re: Which Homeworld is the best?
I wanted to mention something else that stuck out at me. Mission 15 (Chapel Perilous) is insanely difficult. On my latest playthrough the Taiidan knocked out my sensors array via a bomber strike from above, while a battlefleet closed in from the front. The fleet seemed to ignore my capital ships and go straight for the mothership, knocking her out fast. I liked to imagine the Taiidan Admiral onboard that fleets battlecruiser was their version of General Patton- a bit reckless and insanely aggressive.
After repeated restarts I finally got to the part where Captain Elson jumps in with his fleet. This is where I noticed the music changed to Adagio for Strings, hearkening back to when our homeworld was burned. I must admit, I felt bad for the emperor up to that point. He was desperate to stop us and save his empire, to the point he wouldn't retreat from Hiigara. But once the music kicked in I remembered what he did to our world and spaced him.
I'd also like to mention that Mission 15 in Homeworld 2 is called Return to Hiigara, where the shoe is on the other foot. Now we get to defend the world against the last of the Vayger invasion fleet- including their weapons of mass destruction.

Re: Which Homeworld is the best?
I also loved the Homeworld Cataclysm campaign. Simple miners have to fight an eldritch horror from hyperspace. Pam Hyatt did a wonderful job as their tactical officer. For the longest time I believed she was the same woman who played Mother in Alien, but it seems that was Helen Horton. I looked her up today, and amazingly Pam had to have been about 64 years old when she voice acted the tactical officer. I think she did a great job. Scott Swanson also sold me on being a tough old mining captain of the Kun-Laan. I especially liked his passionate speech to the Bentusi when they where blowing up his fleet...
You are killing us! You and your precious stories! Who will remember the crew of that ship? Or are flicker-lives not worth remembering...
